November 3, 2022, 1331 hours. The Nesconset Fire Department was notified of a building collapse with victims trapped at the former Great Old Marina site on Middle Country Road. Units arrived in minutes to find that a cinder block wall that was being dismantled, collapsed, burying multiple subjects in the rubble. Firefighters removed six victims from the debris, all of whom were transported to Stony Brook hospital. One subject was transported via helicopter. Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown are handling the investigation along with OSHA and the Smithtown Building Department. Nesconset was assisted at the scene by the Smithtown, St. James, Centereach, Lakeland and Ronkonkoma Fire Departments.
