October 5, 2009. Fire reported at 0128 hours. 27 Village Lane. Complainant reported that at least one occupant was trapped within. Arriving units found a heavy fire condition on the upper level of a two story private dwelling. 1st Assistant Chief Raymond Germaine and firefighter Thomas Kirklava Jr, entered the house and removed Dominick Mastandrea 77, who they found unconscious in a 2nd floor bedroom. The victim, his son Michael Mastandrea and Steve Weber, a passerby who assisted with the rescue were all transported to St. Catherines Medical Center by the CI-Hauppauge Volunteer Ambulance Corp. No firefighters were injured. The fire was placed under control at 0158 hours. Thomas Kirklava Sr. was Chief of Department and the OIC.
