October 23, 1894. The residence of Gilbert Thompson at St. James was totally destroyed by fire last Tuesday about five o’clock P.M. The male members of the family were in the fields. One of the women heard a noise and going outdoors discovered the roof on fire. The furniture in the downstairs rooms was saved, excepting the carpets. None of the wearing apparel of the family was saved.
