Smithtown FD-House fire on Helen Avenue

On November 1st 2008 at 0227 hrs the Smithtown Fire Department was alerted for a structural fire at 30 Helen Avenue between George Street and Jerome Street.  Smithtown personnel and apparatus under the incident commander Thomas Duckham became heavily engaged at this stubborn house fire. Smithtown was assisted at the scene by Hauppauge and Nesconset while Kings Park filled in to cover Smithtown’s District. One firefighter was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital and one family pet, a cat was known to have expired. The status of other building occupants was not known at this writing nor was the origin and cause of the fire however I understand the bulk of the fire was in the rear of the residence. The Smithtown Fire Marshals office has been requested by Smithtown Chief Duckham to investigate origin and cause of this fire. Greg Gottlieb info and photos.
