Commack sends an engine to fatal Dix Hills house fire

December 14, 2022 0254 hours. The Dix Hills Fire Department is dispatched to 1365 Carlls Straight Path in regard to a structure Units arrive to find fire throughout a single story cottage on the property. Two lines were stretched and operated. The fire was knocked down within 30 minutes. Firefighters recovered the body of 32 year old Tanya Bathija and of her dog from within the building. Three police officers were transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation and found firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Dix Hills was assisted by Commack and Greenlawn at the scene while the Melville Fire Department sent a unit to cover for the duration. Suffolk Homicide and Arson Detectives are investigating.
