Commack FD-Fire at Ciao Baby Restaurant

November 8, 2009. At approximately 0430, the Commack Fire Department was dispatched to an activated fire alarm at the popular Ciao Baby Restaurant in the Mayfair Shopping Center on Jericho Turnpike.  Quint 14 was on scene with Chief 33 and forced entry to find a slight smoke condition. Crews pulled ceiling tiles and encounter fire above their heads. A line was pulled and put in place right away. Chief 33 transmitted the working fire and requested mutual aid from Kings Park (one engine and one ladder), Smithtown one engine, East Northport (RIT), Nesconset (one engine), Brentwood (ladder truck), Dix Hills (one quint), Greenlawn (one engine to stand by) and Huntington Manor for a truck who took in a pin job on the LIE. Multiple hand lines were deployed then pulled back once the roof was opened to allow master streams to work. Once the fire was knocked down, members re-entered and completed extinguishment. Smithtown Fire Marshals and Suffolk Arson Detectives handle the investigation. The fire is not deemed suspicious.  Photo by 3-8-40.
