Smithtown FD-House fire on Main Street

December 11, 1950. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Blydenburgh were safely evacuated from their residence at approximately 1115 hours as the roof of their house blazed away. The fire was discovered by an unidentified passerby who saw that the roof was on fire and notified a neighbor, Mrs. Margaret Thompson. Mrs. Thompson called the Smithtown Fire Department and then safely evacuated the two elderly occupants without incident. Both of the occupants were over 80 years old Both were taken to a nursing home. Mr. Blydenburgh, who was blind and deaf at the time. Mr. Blydenburgh formerly owned the David Weld property. That property was sold when they advanced in age and they moved to the Main Street address.
