Hauppauge FD-Haz-Mat with victims on Commerce Drive

January 18, 2021. 0715 hours. 60 Commerce Drive. Hauppauge FD is dispatched to this location (DRI Relays) in regard to a report of a chemical odor in the building with people feeling ill. Units arrive and find 26 subjects sick. Firefighters request mutual aid from numerous EMS companies including CI-Hauppauge, Commack Ambulance, Brentwood Legion and from Central Islip FD for a truck and Smithtown FD for an engine. Islip Town Fire Marshal Mike Allen and Smithtown Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Andrew Brofman investigate and determine that the chemical creating the problem is Lenium. The spill is cleared and the building ventilated. All units clear from the scene at 0957 hours.
