Hauppauge FD-Crash on the LIE

On Saturday April 24th 2004 @ 1310 hours, the Hauppauge Fire Department was alerted for a motor vehicle accident on the LIE Westbound at Exit 55. Under the Command of Chief of the Department Michale Gagliardi, Engines 4 & 14 and Heavy Rescue 3-8-9 operated at this scene. Suffolk County Police Emergency Services unit also operated at this scene.

Due to the usual location confusion on the Long Island Expressway we also had assistance from the East Brentwood Fire Department who supplied an ambulance for one of the injured parties and one ambulance (3-26-17) from Central-Islip Hauppauge Ambulance. The 1984 Jaguar struck in the rear by a 2002 Ford Pick-up sustained very serious rear end damage. Extent of Injuries to vehicle occupants was unknown by this author. Traffic on LIE Westbound Had to be diverted off for approximately 20 minutes which made for a traffic nightmare for drivers stuck in it. All Fire Department units were secure by 1341 hrs.
