May 7, 2004 at 0705 hours. The Hauppauge Fire Department responds to a crash with overturn on the Long Island Expressway, eastbound at Route 111. Units arrive to find a crash involving a 1997 Chevy van that struck the guard rail and overturned onto its side on the shoulder. The driver and his two passengers had self extricated and was being treated by EMS from Central Islip Hauppauge Ambulance. FD personnel and SCPD ESU uprighted the vehicle and addressed the fluid leaking into the roadway. Michael Gagliardi was the Chief of Department and the OIC. He operated with his two assistant Chiefs, as well as 3-8-4 and 3-8-9.
