December 29, 2007. 1200 hours. The Smithtown Fire Department operated at a smoldering compacter fire rear of the Shop-Rite Store on Route 347. They quickly knocked down the fire but not before reportedly a considerable amount of smoke entered the building which was temporarily evacuated. Smithtown Fire Marshals are investigating.
