Ronkonkoma FD-Haz mat at Kohls

December 8, 2008 0750 hours. The Ronkonkoma Fire Department responds to Kohls at 106 Ronkonkoma in regard to a haz-mat incident with victims. Units arrive to find that the battery on a floor waxing machine had exploded. One subject had acid burns and 7 other subjects were having difficulty breathing. Ambulances were requested from the surrounding departments to assist in evaluating and transporting a total of 10 patients. Another 10 subjects refused medical attention. Fire Marshals from the Town of Brookhaven handle the investigation.
