August 11, 2011. 1634 hours. The Hauppauge Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a semi-trailer filled with cardboard burning near the intersection of Veterans Highway and Express Drive South. Units arrive to find a trailer burning on the shoulder in front of 1600 Veterans Highway. This trailer was heavily involved upon arrival. The driver separated the tractor prior to FD arrival. Multiple Hauppauge apparatus under the command of Chief Raymond Germaine operated at this incident. Many thanks to the local business that assisted with a pay loader until the State arrived with theirs. The cause of the fire is suspected of being a brake fire which rapidly communicated to the combustible trailer and it cardboard contents. All equipment was back in service at approximately 1830 hrs.
