Nesconset FD-Natural gas leak at the Highway yard

January 4, 2022 0937 hours. The Nesconset Fire Department responds to the Town of Smithtown Highway east yard on Smithtown Bypass, in regard to a report of natural gas leak in one of the buildings.  

Third Assistant Chief AJ Anderson arrived on scene and was advised of a Compressed Natural Gas powered dump truck inside the main repair shop that was leaking natural gas. Engine 4-4-1, Engine 4-4-3, and Heavy Rescue 4-4-9 responded and metered/ventilated the structure while securing the leak. The vehicle was towed out of the building after the scene was deemed safe. 

All units cleared from the scene at 1020 hours. The St. James Fire Department covered from Nesconset during the incident, handling an automatic fire alarm on Washington Ave. There were no injuries. Photos courtesy of Ex-Chief Michael Wichtendahl
