Centereach FD-Yet another fire at the Lake Grove School

February 19, 2016. At approximately 2255 hours, the Centereach Fire Department was dispatched to yet another reported structure fire in the area of the former Lake Grove School. Units arrived to find fire throughout a two story vacant private dwelling (this same building burned back in August of last year). Due to the progression of the fire and there being no life hazard, this fire was fought from the exterior.

While Centereach and Nesconset FD’s were dealing with this fire, Centereach FD was dispatched to another reported house fire on Avenue B (all the way across town). Ronkonkoma FD was covering the district and when they arrived, the found an active fire in the garage of a private home. The crew from Ronkonkoma’s squad 6 and crews from Centereach made quick work of that fire then turned the scene over to Fire Marshals from the Town of Brookhaven. Once the fire in Lake Grove was placed under control, the Town of Brookhaven came in and demolished the house to allow the fire department to safely extinguish the rest of the fire. All units cleared the Lake Grove job just before 4AM. This fire investigation is being handled by the Lake Grove Fire Marshal, Suffolk County Fire Marshal (their K-9 was utilized) and Suffolk Arson. No rest for the weary though as at about that time, Ronkonkoma FD was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Hawkins Avenue near Beverly Road. Units arrived to find a crash with an overturned vehicle that left the roadway, taking out a utility pole.
