Centereach FD-House fire on Hawkins Avenue

July 1, 1994. Approximately 2000 hours. Centereach Fire Department responds to 1020 Hawkins Avenue location in regard to a fire in a house under renovation. Units arrive to find a fire in a two story private dwelling. The house sustains heavy damage and is demolished a few days later. Fire investigation is handled by the Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshals and Suffolk Arson. This fire predates the Lake Grove Fire Marshal but is the first of two fires within 3 days of each other that is the impetus for the village to hire their own Marshal. The other was at 1038 Hawkins Avenue on July 4, 1994 and was a fatal fire.
