April 18, 1999. Crews from the Holtsville Fire Department, covering for Ronkonkoma FD took the first call of a vehicle fire in front of 33 Metzner Road at 0455 hours. Units arrived to find a burning truck in the street. The truck was destroyed. Approximately thirty minutes later, Holtsville responds to a rubbish fire in front of 38 Lafayette Ave in Lake Grove. While taking up from that fire, the encountered a vehicle fire around the corner in front of 10 Walnut Street. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before the car was destroyed. Firefighters left that scene and encountered a house fire at the corner of Walnut Street and Ralph Avenue. The single story house was destroyed and the fire extended to a house next door. One firefighter was transported from that scene with burns to the face. In addition to the fires, Suffolk police handled a report of tires slashed on a vehicle on Lafayette Ave, a vehicle stolen from Olive Street and another vehicle that was broken into on Lafayette Avenue. The Lake Grove Fire Marshals and Suffolk Arson Detectives are investigating.
