Ronkonkoma FD-Gould Feed on Hawkins Avenue burns

April 5, 1966. 0153 hours. Officials are investigating the possibility of arson in a six hour fire that leveled an empty feed and grain building in Lake Grove. The building, which is located at Moriches Road and Hawkins Avenue (Currently Lake Grove Village Hall) had been empty for two months. The owners had asked the fire department to burn it down but it was still being studied. Roughly 200 firefighters from seven departments responded to the fire. Two Centereach firefighters suffered minor injuries. 29 year old firefighter John Taper was burned on both legs and firefighter Joseph Ingegno, 22, cut his lip and burned his knee. Both were treated at Smithtown General Hospital.

Note. The building in the left side of the photo still stands today.
