August 30, 2010, 0430 Hours. The Selden Fire Department signed on the air with a structure fire on Garfield Avenue. Arriving units found heavy fire throughout a vacant-boarded up single story wood frame dwelling.
Mutual aid was requested from Coram, Centereach, Farmingville and Mount Sinai to the scene with Middle Island, Gordon Heights, Miller Place, Holtsville, Sound Beach and Ronkonkoma providing additional coverage.
Chief John Cronin was the incident commander. One firefighter was transported to Stony Brook Hospital with heat exhaustion. The fire is under investigation by the Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshals office and the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad. All photos courtesy of Dennis Whittam.
