February 24, 2023 0806 hours. The Islip Fire Department is dispatched to 1251 Boston Avenue off Brook Street in regard to report of a chimney fire. Arriving units transmit a working fire with fire venting from the front of the single story house. Mutual aid was started and lines were stretched. Crews had to fight through hoarding conditions and while conducting the primary search, they located and removed one deceased elderly female from the house. Heavy fire conditions in the basement and throughout most of the ground level and the attic resulted in a partial collapse of the roof. As such crews were pulled out of the building. Once the fire was knocked down, two additional lines were stretched and crews re-entered the structure. By 0915 hours, the primary search was completed and negative. All visible fire was knocked down by 0923 and the fire was placed under control shortly thereafter.
Mutual aid was requested from the Central Islip fire department for a truck, Bay Shore for an engine, East Islip for an engine, West Islip for a Quint, Terrace to cover but then redirected in to the scene, Brentwood for a RIT, West Sayville for a truck, East Brentwood for truck to cover and Hauppauge sent an engine to cover.. Numerous EMS companies were on scene for the duration of the incident.
