March 7, 2023. It is with deep regret the Chiefs Office announces the passing of Ex-Captain and 61 Year Member, Douglas Hanson. Doug was a member of Engine Company 2 and was currently serving as a Department Trustee. Doug is one of only nine members in the 115 year history of the Smithtown Fire Department to serve for over 60 years. Doug was 78 years old.
He was loved and cherished by many people including his children, Doug Jr., Eric and Peggy; and his grandchildren, Blake, Sophia, Emma and Alexander.
A mass will be held on Tuesday, March 14th 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Byzantine Catholic Church of the Resurrection (38 Mayflower Ave, Smithtown, NY 11787). A burial will be held on Tuesday, March 14th 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Smithtown Cemetery (27 N Country Rd, Smithtown, NY 11787).
