April 28, 2023, 1023 hours. The Setauket Fire Department is dispatched to an automatic alarm at the Frank Melville Jr. Memorial Library on John S. Toll Drive on the campus of SUNY Stony Brook. The call was immediately upgraded to a working fire in the Starbucks on the ground level of a five story commercial building. Crews stretched in while mutual aid was requested from the Stony Brook, Nesconset, St. James, Centereach, Selden, Port Jefferson, Terryville, Ronkonkoma and Mt. Sinai Fire Departments. The natural gas fueled fire was quickly extinguished once the gas was shutdown. The fire was placed under control within 30 minutes. Crews had cleared the scene by noon. There were no injuries.
