05-14-2023 0351 Hours – For the second time in 24 hours, the Hauppauge Fire Department and CI-Hauppauge Ambulance are dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with a car fire on the Long Island Expressway. Units arrive to find that an adult male, traveling westbound in a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer left the roadway by the exit 56 off ramp between Lincoln Boulevard and Wheeler Road. The vehicle overturned multiple times, going over the guard rail and coming to rest on the North Service Road.
The operator had self-extricated prior to the arrival of SCPD,EMS and FD. Quint 3-8-5 and Engine 3-8-13 operated at this incident under the Command of Assistant Chiefs Christopher Crean and Nicholas Mendola.
The operator was taken to South Shore Hospital by EMS personnel from 3-26-18. There was also one other causality, a deceased fish. The operator of the vehicle had told police he had fallen asleep. Greg Gottlieb photos.
