April 28, 2023. 0215 hours. The Commack Fire Department is dispatched with Commack Ambulance to a report of a traffic collision on the Northern State Parkway. Units arrive to find that a vehicle that had been traveling eastbound, left the roadway and struck a tree, just east of Exit. 46. The lone male occupant was heavily pinned and suffered serious injuries. Once extricated, he was transported to Stony Brook Hospital, where he died on April 30th.
The victim is identified by the New York State Police as 43 year old Kevin Lui, of College Point, Queens. At the time of his death, Lui was a police officer in the NYPD assigned to the 23rd precinct in Manhattan. Photos from the NYPD Twitter page
