St. James FD-House fire on Hobson Avenue

January 15, 2018 1316 hours. St. James Fire Department is dispatched to a reported house fire at 82 Hobson Avenue. Chief of Department Edward Springer Jr. was the first in and after a quick size up determined that there was an active fire in the walls and floor between the basement and the ground level of a large two story private dwelling.

Engine 4-3-3 was the first due. The crew stretched an 1 3/4 hand line through the front door and attacked the fire. Simultaneous to this, other FD personnel ventilated and searched the structure for victims. This quick attack confined the fire damage to a small section of the house. St. James Volunteer Fire Department operated with Chief of Department Edward Springer Jr, 3rd Assistant Chief Frank Sapienza, Engine’s 1, 3, Ladder 7, Rescue 9 and EMS Company 6.

The Nesconset Fire Department sent Engine 4-4-1, and the Stony Brook Fire Department sent a Rapid Intervention Team. The Nissequogue Fire Department sent an engine to Saint James FD to cover the district for the duration of the incident.
