Central Islip FD-Basement fire on Monsen Street

February 3 2009, 0550 hours. The Central Islip Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire at 16 Monsen Street. Fire communications advised the first Chief on the air that the occupants had smoke in the house and were evacuating. Under command of Chief of the Department Richard Huttie, engine 3-7-3 being first, due laid a supply line from a hydrant and stretched a hand line to the home. Second due engine 3-7-4 picked up the hydrant to supply the first engine. Units quickly located the fire withinb the basement. A search of the home was conducted where the family dog was found on the second floor in good condition. The cause of this fire is currently under investigation with the Central Islip FD Fire Marshals Office as well as the Town of Islip FM and Suffolk County Police Arson squad.
