Nesconset FD-house fire on Eklund Blvd

January 21, 1958, 1300 hours. Two story house known as the “Cozy Mansion”, which was on Eklund Blvd near Gibbs Pond Road, was gutted by fire today. The fire building was a 100 year old house owned by the Finlay family. It had been the center piece of their farm and was the only house from Nichols Road to Lake Ronkonkoma.

Nesconset operated with their entire department, Centereach sent their tanker (5-5-6) and their heavy rescue truck, St. James responded to the scene with three units as did Smithtown with five. The Kings Park Fire Department sent a unit to cover. Crews had to shuttle water from two hydrants in the St. James Water District which was two miles away.

Nesconset Chief John Gorman was the OIC. Crews finally left the scene at 2300 hours.
