January 1, 2021 – The Lakeland, Nesconset and Ronkonkoma Fire Departments were dispatched to a report of a structure fire in building 18 of the Colony Park Apartments at 500 Peconic Street in the Lakeland Fire District. Units arrive to find heavy fire venting to the exterior from numerous apartments within the two story wood frame structure. The fast moving blaze ripped through multiple units, and caused extensive damage to the entire structure. Dozens of residents were displaced, but no injuries were reported. Firefighters rescued multiple pets from the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Town of Islip Fire Marshals and the Suffolk Police Arson Squad.
