October 28, 2023, 0138 hours. The Lakeland Fire Department is dispatched to a report of smoke coming from a commercial building in the vicinity of Veterans Highway and 13th Avenue. Units arrive to find smoke pushing from a Signarama printing store at 2990 Veterans Highway, which is within a single story strip mall.
Command was established in front of the building and a supply line was stretched from a hydrant across Veterans Highway. Mutual aid was requested from the Nesconset Fire Department for a truck (4-4-7), Central Islip for an engine (3-7-1), Holbrook for a RIT (3-15-2), Bohemia for a quint (3-12-6) and Ronkonkoma for an engine (5-24-12). Hauppauge sent an engine (3-8-4) to Lakelands station on Motor Parkway to cover. Central Islip and Islip Exchange sent ambulances to the scene. Three lines were stretched and one operated. The small fire was quickly extinguished and the area overhauled.
Suffolk Arson Detectives are handling the investigation. Islip Town Fire Marshals were also on scene.
