March 30, 2019 This morning just after 11:30 ENFD firefighters responded to a large brush fire on privately owned property between Deposit Rd and 5th Avenue, adjacent to the Town of Huntington landfill. Upon arrival of Chiefs Dan Flanagan and Tom Bourne the location of the fire was confirmed and access locations and a command post were established. A full response from ENFD as well as Mutual aids for brush trucks and additional resources were immediately requested due to the size of the fire, the anticipated quick spread due to the strong wind conditions, proximity to nearby structures and the hazard of the nearby Iroquois pipeline which is a large underground natural gas line that runs from Canada to New York along the trail. Firefighters operated on scene for just under three hours. Approximately three acres of brush were burned in total. The gas pipeline was not affected nor were any of the near by structures. There were no injuries. Approximately 75 emergency personnel from numerous agencies operated at the scene with 7 brush trucks, 4 engines, 3 ambulances, 1 paramedic, as well as fire police and a rehab/support unit. Mutual aid was provided by Northport, Commack, Greenlawn, Kings Park, Dix Hills Fire Department’s and the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Photos and story via East Northport FD Facebook Page
