Hauppauge FD-House fire on Cardinal Lane

March 22, 2019, 0639 hours. Hauppauge firefighters were called to 19 Cardinal Lane in regard to a report of smoke in a house. Units arrive to find that all occupants had fled the single story house due to heavy smoke from an unknown source. Hose lines were stretched while crews searched the house. The fire was found within the basement and was extinguished. Commack Fire Department sent a RIT, Smithtown Fire Department sent an engine, Central Islip Hauppauge Ambulance sent a bus and medics and the Central Islip Fire Department sent an engine to cover.

The fire was placed under control in just over an hour. Units remained on scene until after 0800 and returned approximately 90 minutes later to deal with hot spots. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Hauppauge Fire District Fire Marshal, Fire Marshals from the Town of Smithtown Department of Public Safety and Detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad. The fire is not considered suspicious at this time. There were no injuries.
