March 17, 2019 0053 hours. Lakeland Fire Department responds to the Colony Park Apartments at 500 Peconic Street in regards to a structure fire. Units arrive to find heavy fire throughout building 29. Prior to their arrival, an adult female who was trapped in here upper level apartment above the fire dropped her one year old child to an adult male on the ground and then jumped from the balcony. The woman and child were both transported via ambulance to Stony Brook hospital. An adult male was also transported to the hospital. Multiple hose lines and master streams were put into operation to fight the fire, which had completely consumed all of the apartment within the building. Mutual aid was provided by Hauppauge (ending to the scene), St. James FD (ladder to the scene), Bohemia FD, Nesconset FD (engine to the scene), Central Islip FD, Holbrook FD, East Brentwood FD (ambulance to cover).
