February 7, 1890. Mrs. Calvin L’Hommedieu, of Smithtown Branch, met with an accident on Friday that narrowly proved fatal. She was walking near the curb of an abandoned well and was suddenly precipitated to the bottom, nearly twenty feet, by the carth caving in. Fortunately the sand that fell at the some time partially filled the well preventing her from getting into the water. A pervant who saw Mrs. L’Hommedien suddenly disappear into the well gave an alurm, and a ladder being procured she was speedily rescued from her perilous position. Mr. L’Hommedien is over 70 vears of age. No bones were broken. but she is suffering severely from shock.
