East Northport FD-structure fire at the Genola Cemetary

February 23, 2019 Just after 1:30pm this afternoon the East Northport Fire Department began receiving multiple calls for a fire in a commercial building on the property of the Genola Cemetery on Laurel Rd. Upon arrival of Chiefs Tom Bourne and Steven Macedonio a working structure fire was transmitted for heavy fire in a one story commercial storage building.  Engine 2-10-4 was on scene in under five minutes and immediately deployed hose lines for a defense operation until fire conditions darkened down allowing for the transition to an interior operation. The scene was deemed under control in approximately 40 minutes however units remained on scene operating for over two hours. ENFD operated with 5 Engines, 1 aerial ladder, 1 ambulance, fire police, a rehab/support unit as well as the Cyanide Response Team provided by Paramedics from the Dix Hills Fire Department, Greenlawn Fire Department and Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps. 

Mutual aid was provided by the Greenlawn FIre Department with a FAST team and Northport Fire Department with a ladder at the scene. Commack Fire Department and Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corp stood by at ENFD’s headquarters with an Engine and Ambulance to handle additional alarms. There were no injuries. The scene was turned over to the Town of Huntington Fire Marshals office and the Suffolk County Police Department’s Arson Squad for an investigation. Information and photos courtesy of the East Northport Fire Department Facebook Page.
