Setauket FD-Fatal house fire on Old Town Road

February 18, 2022 0003 hours. The Setuaket Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 360 Old Town Road. Firefighters arrived to find a two story private dwelling with fire throughout. 31 year old Stephen Ortner was able to get through the flames and out onto a roof ledge with his 10 month old son Leo. The baby was passed down to a good samaritan and Ortner jumped from the ledge to save himself. Both were transported to the hospital with serious burns. Firefighters found 31 year old Lisa Ostrowski deceased on the second floor of the house. Crews operated at least four hand lines and multiple master streams. The Port Jefferson FD sent a truck, Centereach FD a RIT and an ambulance, Stony Brook FD an engine, Port Jefferson Ambulance sent units, Terryville FD sent two engines and an ambulance to the scene, Selden FD for an engine and ALS ambulance and Coram FD was requested for an ambulance. Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating along with the Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshals Office.
