February 26, 1988 A man driving west on 347 attempted to merge into the traffic lanes of Middle Country Road and ended up inside Blackbeards Restaurant at 943 Middle Country Road. The driver of the vehicle stated that another vehicle failed to yield to his, causing his BMW to bounce off a curb and crash into Blackbeards. The establishment was closed at the time. The building is no longer there and the land is being used as a parking lot for Smithtown Chevrolet.
