February 26, 1908 In the latter part of 1907, Robert G Cunningham, Mayor of Nesconset, called a public meeting to discuss the organization of a volunteer fire company. With John S. Hunting acting as temporary chairman, this meeting was held in the Royal Arcanum Hall, which then became the Smithtown Stationary Store. At a second meeting on February 26, 1908, with J. Evans Crane chairman and George B. Uptick secretary, it was voted to organize a fire company and the following officers were proposed:

G. Everett Hand-Treasurer
J. Evans Crane-Trustee
John S. Hunting-Trustee
