Smithtown FD sell a pumper to Freedom Land in the Bronx

March 3, 1960 Smithtown FD sells their 24 year old Seagrave pumper to “Freedomland”, a 205 acre enterprise that was under construction in the Bronx and was to be a Disney like location focusing on the history of the United States. Exhibits were to include Old New York, New Orleans Mardi Gras, The Chicago Fair, Crossing the Mississippi and Satellite City. The Smithtown pumper was to be used as part of the fire protection of the venue. This was a 600GPM pumper that Smithtown replaced with a 750GPM Mack. Smithtown News with photo 3-3-1960.

Note: Freedomland U.S.A. was a short-lived, American history-themed amusement park in the Baychester area in the northeastern part of the Bronx borough in New York City. Its slogan was “The World’s Largest Entertainment Center”. It opened June 19, 1960 and closed in 1964.
