Smithtown FD-House fire on Landing Avenue

March 20, 1940 Fire believed to have been caused by a faulty oil burner completely destroyed the $15,000 home of Mr. and Mrs. N. O. Lindner on Landing Avenue. Although the Smithtown and Kings Park Fire Departments turned out, they were handicapped in their attempt to fight the fire with chemicals and booster tanks, by the lack of water in the area.

Mr. and Mrs. Lindner, who were living in the house, lost their household effects and personal wardrobes, and were offered temporary shelter at the Franciscan Brothers Monastery, Kings Park. The Lindner children are away at School. all of the barns garages and outbuildings on the property were saved.
Alarm is activated at 1830 and units released at 2025. This fire is listed in the FD Record of Fires and alarms 1940 on page 1.
