Smithtown FD-Fire at the DPW building

April 7, 1986 Fire was reported at approximately 1930 hours. Four Smithtown Firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation and other injuries when a fire destroyed the Hauppauge office of the Suffolk County DPW. The fire was caused by a problem with electrical wiring on the roof of the one story building caused approximately 1 million dollars in damage. Smithtown and Hauppauge FDs operated at the scene and brought the fire under control within an hour.
