April 7, 2011 A birds nest in an outdoor light fixture was the apparent cause of a fire that caused significant damage to a house on Karen Place today. Commack Fire Ddepartment 1st Assistant Chief Pete Paccione arrived to find flames above the front door and through the roof, spreading to the rafters above several rooms. Ladder One was first in and stretched two lines. Under the command of Chief of Department Kieran Keane, four engines, and the heavy rescue responded, along with 40 firefighters who gained control of the fire in under 20 minutes. CVAC responded to the scene. The elderly female occupant escaped without injury. Firefighters located one pet cat that was happily reunited with its owner.
