Commack FD-Fire guts Uncle Henrys Restaurant

April 17, 1990 Uncle Henrys was one of the first all you can eat Chinese Buffets in the area. The restaurant was a freestanding two story structure that at one time had been a house. The building was occupied at the time, with the restaurant on the ground level and apartments above. The fire was reported at 0032 hours. Firefighters arrived to find fire blowing out the front and side windows. The tenants from the apartments above had safely evacuated without injury. Over 100 firefighters from Commack, Smithtown, Hauppauge and East Northport operated at the scene. Commack Ambulance transported 7 injured firefighters to the hospital. Robert Jinks was OIC as 1st Assistant Chief. Fire reportedly started in the lobby of the building. Smithtown Fire Marshals and Suffolk Arson Detectives handle the investigation. Uncle Henrys was located at 1131 Jericho Turnpike where Artis Senior Living is located now.
