Hauppauge FD-500 acres destroyed by forest fire

May 8, 1957 Brush fires are destroying thousands of acres of land in Suffolk County. 500 acres were destroyed in the area of Motor Parkway and Hawthorne Road. The fire traveled east-northeast jumping Hoffman Lane and Veterans Highway. The fire traveled into the area of Blydenburgh Road and Hoffman Lane destroying one house and requiring the rescue of the elderly female occupant by a Smithtown Fire Chief.
