St. James FD-Barn Fire on Horse Race Lane

April 21, 1949 Fire reported in the early morning hours. This was a very large barn on the property of Harry Hotchkiss on Horse Race Lane in Nissequogue. The barn burned to the ground, with flames shooting 100s of feet in the air. The fire was reported at 0300 hours by Paul De Guzman. The fire was believed to have been a result of spontaneous combustion. The barn contained a number of cauliflower crates. The building was insured. Smithtown News 4-21-1949. Side Note: St. James FD responds to another fire at Mr. De Guzmans house here on April 10th (Just over a week prior).
