St. James FD-Chimney Fire at the Stanford White Estate

April 23, 1926. This was a chimney fire. The damage was minor.

Stanford White was an American architect. He was also a partner in the architectural firm McKim, Mead & White, one of the most significant Beaux-Arts firms. He designed many houses for the rich, in addition to numerous civic, institutional, and religious buildings.Stanford White designed the St. James Firehouse on Route 25A

On June 25, 1906, millionaire Harry Thaw murdered famed architect Stanford White in a jealous rage over Thaw’s actress wife, Evelyn Nesbit. The ensuing high-society trials (the first ended in a dead-locked jury) gripped the nation’s headlines for more than a year.
