Smithtown FD-House fire on Sunrise Lane

May 3, 2017 At approximately 2020 hours, 911 was inundated with calls reporting an explosion at 98 Sunrise Lane. The Smithtown Fire Department was dispatched along with SCPD.

Prior to the arrival of the fire department, Smithtown FD member Kevin Pearsall, who lives across the street, confirmed with the dispatchers that it was a working fire and then entered the structure and removed an adult female from within. The female, who was burned, was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

FD units arrived and encountered heavy fire throughout a two story wood frame private dwelling. Chief of Department Mike Landrigan had crews stretch multiple hand lines in and around the house. Mutual aid was requested from Kings Park for a RIT and Hauppauge for an engine to the scene.

The fire was knocked down within 45 minutes. Overhaul was extensive and the last FD unit cleared from the scene at 2215 hours.

The house was a total loss. Fire Marshals from the Town and Suffolk Arson Detectives are handling the investigation.

Nissequogue and St. James covered for Smithtown and, along with the Nesconset Fire Department, handled a number of alarms.
