Hauppauge FD is established

05-11-1931 The Hauppauge Fire Department is formed. From 1931 to May 9, of 1950, the Hauppauge Fire Department only covered the Islip part of their current fire district. In 1950, they annexed the Smithtown portion of the fire district.

The fire company was officially incorporated in 1932 and known as the Hauppauge Volunteer Fire Company. After the organization of Company’s 1,2 & 3 in the late 1940’s the Fire Company was re-incorporated to its current official name as the Hauppauge Volunteer Fire Department in 1951.

This is the original motorized apparatus used at the time both prior to and at the time of formation.

This vehicle was stored in a barn across from where the first firehouse was built on wheeler road by the newly formed fire district (1937) in 1939. It Carried large containers originally designed to store milk which now contained water, buckets, back pack hand pumps (Indian cans) brush brooms and rakes.
