Northport FD-house fire on Scudder Avenue

April 29, 2021 2245 hours. The Northport Fire Department received a call for an unknown type fire at 65 Scudder Avenue. The occupant of the home who is wheelchair bound was able to self evacuate by crawling out the front door seconds before flames engulfed the entryway. Neighbors quickly assisted the occupant and moved her out of harms way. Arriving police and fire units encountered thick smoke and flames pushing out the front door and first floor windows. Chief Sheridan, the first fire department unit on scene notified dispatch to transmit a working fire. Under the command of Chief Sheridan and Asst Chief Smalling Northport FD personnel made an aggressive interior attack and and were able to quickly knock down a large volume of fire. Mutual aid was requested from East Northport FD, for a Truck Company, Centerport FD for and Engine and Kings Park FD for an Engine to standby at Station 1. Northport units Engine 298, Tower Ladder 297, Engine 296, Heavy Rescue 29-10, Engine 293, Engine 294, EMS units 295 and 29-15 were all on scene. The homes occupant was transported to Huntington hospital for evaluation. One firefighter received minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
