May 24, 2022. 1939 hours. The Smithtown Fire Department responds to 555 Route 111 in regard to a phone alarm from an employee reporting a fire on the roof. Units arrive to find an active fire in a small section of roofing material, which had been repaired earlier in the day. Firefighters pulled the roof assembly apart in the affected area and extinguished the fire. The St. James and Hauppauge Fire Departments stood by at the scene. The Nesconset Fire Department was requested to send a ladder to Smithtown FD headquarters. Commack Ambulance was also requested to cover.
