Centereach FD-House destroyed on Middle Country Road

June 8, 2022, 2238 hours. Centereach Fire Department responds to a report of a structure fire at 2383 Middle Country Road. Units arrive to find heavy fire throughout a two story vacant dwelling to the rear of this address. Crews operated on the interior but backed out to know the fire down from outside after a section of the floor collapsed. The fire was placed under control within an hour. Centereach was assisted at the scene by the Selden, Stony Brook and Setauket Fire Departments. Ronkonkoma FD sent an engine to cover for the duration. Nesconset sent an ambulance. One firefighter was treated for a minor injury. Fire Marshals from the Town of Brookhaven and Detectives from the Suffolk County Arson Squad are investigating. Photo courtesy of Frankie Verdame.
